NATO - A United European Front
Our Beijing Bureau
31 DEC

When NATO was established , its prime objective was to counter the threat posed by the Soviets. However, the Bear has long gone into the past and no longer ceases to be in the running as a worthy opponent. NATO today stands on another plank, to increase security for it's members from potential threats from the Middle-East & Africa. The NATO alliance is also considering to offer membership to the three baltic states.

The objective of NATO has inevitably become to protect states not only of external aggressions but also of internal conflicts. It's role in Kosovo was widely heralded as being one for the common good and for the god of the state. Wuth tensions rising and a probable further collapse of Russia, NATO has to be kept on alert to be ready to oppose any threats from further rulers in Russia. The middle east tensions could so easily spread into parts of Eastern Europe as could Saharan Africa. These threats and aggressions are the sole reason why a sixty year old alliance is still going strong.
